Walk for the Planet Insight and Reflections
From 30,000 feet paddocks are coloured shapes, animals tiny dots, rivers more like strands of wool cutting across the landscape. The journey from Christchurch to Invercargill a mere 80 minutes. There is little conversation between passengers. No interaction is possible with those whose homes and communities flash past beneath the wings.
Even travelling by car there is isolation from our environment. We speed by unaware of the joys and cares of the people we pass. The emphasis, getting to the destination as quickly as possible.
In contrast the Walk for the Planet invites awareness: of landscape; traveling companions; and the people we meet. These thoughts are provided to help start conversations, with ourselves and others, so that our walking becomes focused and purposeful. It also invites those who cannot be part of the main walk to join in common reflection as they participate by walking around their own communities.
