Messages from Supporters
Quaker Peace & Service joins with "Walk for the Planet" in expressing our concern about climate change. A long walk is a long experience of the real environment, its variety, its beauty, and its fragility. It is also a sign of willingness to put time and energy into hoping and acting for a better long-term future. We urge the nation's leaders to lead the way with stronger environmental policies.

We wish you and the walkers (and cyclists) on your Walk for the Planet endeavour well as you set out on this endeavour today.
Thank you for your commitment to take the message of caring for the earth and environment to the roads in your journey through the South Island.
We have alerted some key potential supporters in the regions you are covering, and we realise you already have support from Catholic quarters. We hope it all travels smoothly and safely, and any organisational gaps are filled.
We also hope to have a Caritas representation welcome the walkers when they arrive in Wellington on Easter Saturday and/or accompany them on the final march to Parliament.
And in the words of the Irish blessing:
May the roads rise before you,
May the winds be always at your back,
May the sun shine warmly on your faces,
May the rains fall gently on your fields, and, until we meet again,
May He always hold you in the hollow of His hand.
All the best,
Mike and the Caritas team
Message of Support from Anglican Archbishop
I send greetings to those participants in the Walk for the Planet which will begin at Rakiura on Stewart Island on Ash Wednesday and give my whole-hearted and prayerful support to those who have committed to raise awareness of the plight of our planet in this way. I totally support your concern and your willingness to demonstrate humankind’s selfish and reckless destruction of our planet. Any effort to promote our care and guardianship of mother earth and all of God’s creation is commendable and appropriate.
I acknowledge the agencies and movements associated with the Walk for the Planet, the walkers and supporters who are about to undertake this pilgrimage to raise awareness of our need to nurture and protect all of God’s creation. May we give to our God our thanks and praise.
May God protect you on your Lenten journey for Aotearoa and planet earth.
Yours In Christ,
David Moxon
